Why Do I Need to Supplement?
Our bodies go through literally millions of chemical reactions to provide energy for us throughout the day. From the production of hormones to regulate our hunger, thirst, and sleep cycles to the ability to breakdown food for muscle, bone and tissue repair/growth, our bodies are constantly working! If one of our physiological systems does not get the adequate nutrition, they will begin to breakdown. We see this when we get sick (flu, headaches, skin breakouts, nausea and other digestive issues). The longer this continues, the more likely we will see more serious health issues develop: migraines, chronic fatigue, bruising, hair loss, hormonal imbalances, insomnia, inflammation in joints, osteoporosis, diabetes, prostate disorders...the list keeps on going, but I will not.
The point I am making is this: the food from our diet does not contain the nutrients, vitamins and minerals necessary to maintain health. To keep up with the physical demands we place on our bodies, we must place a higher value on good nutrition.
Good nutrition used to be simple: follow the colorful food pyramid and you were golden! However, due to changes in the way we grow crops, the foods we eat today are seriously deprived of basic nutrients. Even our fruits and vegetables don't pack the same "punch" they used to. This is due to our modern day diet which consists mostly of processed foods. The grocery stores buy them because the food can last longer on the shelves without spoiling. YOU buy them because they are cheap and easy to cook up. I just went to my pantry and noticed my can of black beans doesn't expire...until June 2013! How is that possible? One word: preservatives. Think of it like mummification of your food. Preservatives are used to stop food from breaking down and spoiling so quickly. Good for the grocery store who is trying to capitalize on their profit, bad for your stomach that is trying to figure out how to break it down!
The need becomes increasingly apparent that we must ADD to our current diet to ensure the we get the proper vitamins and minerals to prevent diseases and maintain health! I believe that every health issue I listed in the first paragraph can be avoided by meeting your daily need of good nutrition. Adding to our diet, or supplementing, does not have to be complicated, but I do encourage you as the consumer to research what supplements you are taking! Be a supplement snob! Be picky about what you are investing in. Look for these key qualities:
* Supplements have been clinically tested for purity and potency.* Supplements have been proven effective and safe.* Ingredients are combined for maximum absorption.
* Ingredients contain non-GMO soy.
